Mauritius doesn’t have four seasons but has two seasons which can be defined as ‘dry season’ and ‘rainy season’.

However, unlike other tropical destinations close to the equator, the temperatures can vary a little throughout the year and you can also define the split as ‘summer’ and ‘winter’. 

Unlike other parts of the world, where summer means constant sunshine, the southern hemisphere summer brings some rain to Mauritius.

Many couples, particularly those trying to escape the European winter, still visit Mauritius over the Christmas / New Year holiday period. If you decide to visit Mauritius at this time, consider an adults-only resort or a resort with adults-only zones.

So, although January is not considered the best time to visit Mauritius for honeymoon, prices are at a peak in early January, but from the second week of the month, you’ll find excellent value.

On average, about 11 days per month receive rainfall. Typically, this will manifest as brief tropical showers, usually in the afternoon. It’s the most humid month of the year.

It is cyclone season, posing a possibility of more severe weather. Therefore February is not considered the best time to visit Mauritius on honeymoon. The temperatures reach their peak, averaging at 28°C / 84°F.

May is the best time to visit Mauritius for honeymoon. In fact, it’s one of our favourite months as it’s the start of ‘winter’ and the dry season! The temperatures are lovely, averaging around 25°C / 77°F,

It’s still the tropics, so one in four days may see a shower or two which will usually pass quickly. The weather is extremely pleasant at this time of year. Not too hot and not too cold.

May is the best time to visit Mauritius on honeymoon.

June is the start of ‘winter’ in Mauritius with low humidity and temperatures averaging around a balmy 23°C / 75°F.

It’s one of the months of the year that have the least rainfall. 

However, trade winds across the Indian Ocean means that the east and south coast can be breezier, so if you’re travelling on honeymoon to Mauritius in June, we’d recommend choosing a honeymoon resort on the north / northwest and west coasts of the island.

Late June coincides with the start of school holidays in Europe and North America, so prices for flights jump in the last few days of the month, so we’d recommend booking early to get the best deals and availability.

June is the best time to visit Mauritius for honeymoon if you prefer milder warm weather.

If you prefer milder temperatures, then July would be a good time to visit Mauritius.

However, because of the trade winds prevailing across the Indian Ocean, the eastern and southern coasts tend to be windier.

Therefore, if you’re planning a honeymoon trip to Mauritius in July, we suggest opting for a honeymoon resort situated on the northern, northwest, or western shores of the island.

In July, you’ll find that it aligns with the school holiday / vacation season in Europe and North America.

As a result, flight prices generally tend to be higher during this period. To secure the most advantageous deals and availability, we advise booking your Mauritius honeymoon early.

As it’s ‘winter’, the humidity is low and temperatures are cooler, averaging 22°C / 72°F. It’s one of the months with the lowest recorded rainfall. 

However, due to the trade winds prevailing across the Indian Ocean, the eastern and southern coasts tend to experience more breeziness.

Thus, if you’re embarking on a honeymoon in Mauritius in August, we’d suggest selecting a honeymoon resort located on the north, northwest and western coasts of the island.

During August, you’ll notice it coincides with the school holidays and vacation season in Europe and North America.

Consequently, flight prices typically are at some of the highest during this time of year. To secure the best possible deals and ensure availability, our recommendation is to book early.

August is the best time to visit Mauritius for honeymoon if you prefer milder warm weather.

The trade winds of the previous months start to subside.

However, if you’re planning a honeymoon in Mauritius in September, we suggest opting for a honeymoon resort situated on the northern, northwest, or western shores of the island, particularly earlier in the month.

As the new school term has started, prices for flights drop, making it a cheaper time for a Mauritius honeymoon.

September is the best time to visit Mauritius for honeymoon if you prefer milder warm weather.

Temperatures start to increase to averages of 25°C / 78°F. Rainfall is minimal and humidity is low. 

You don’t need to stick to one coast for your honeymoon hotel choice, either. The entire island is your oyster!

However, October coincides with the half term holiday period in Europe, so prices for flights can jump around those weeks, so book early.

October is the best time to visit Mauritius for honeymoon, with lovely temperatures and dry weather.

Although it’s officially the start of the rainy season, the records show that this is mostly showers and usually not every day. 

Temperatures are a stunning 26°C / 79°F. Humidity levels remain low. 

November is the best time to visit Mauritius for honeymoon with warm temperatures and only the odd tropical shower.
