Honeymoon in Namibia
Remote landscapes, incredible wildlife, a little off-the-beaten-track, a honeymoon in Namibia is unique…

Why Go
Vast open spaces, breathtaking landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and an abundance of adventure opportunities – we’re more than a little enthralled by a honeymoon in Namibia!
With its diverse topography ranging from towering sand dunes to the rugged terrain and wild ocean, Namibia is an ideal destination for an exciting off the beaten track honeymoon road trip.
Most couples will start their honeymoon in Namibia in Windhoek, the capital city. Windhoek has an unique mix of German colonial-era and modern architecture.
If you’re not doing an organised tour, most couples will pick up a 4×4 (don’t forget to book a satellite phone if you’ll be getting off the beaten track).
Then it’s on to the dramatic landscapes. Head south through the Kalahari Desert, past the Tropic of Capricorn to Fish River Canyon, one of Namibia’s most breathtaking natural wonders/
With a unique landscape of red rock formations, winding riverbeds and towering cliffs, this is one of the largest canyons in Africa (and second largest after the USA‘s Grand Canyon).
Hikers will love the trails in this area. Don’t miss Quiver Tree Forest.
Some tours will take a detour to the remote southern coastline and the German town of Lüderitz, stopping en route at Garub to see the wild horses of the Namib Desert.
Head north through the Namib Desert (the oldest desert in the world) via Sesriem to Sossusvlei, famous for its high, red sand dunes. The sand here is 5 million years old.
You can climb the breathtaking Dune 45 early in the morning to catch the stunning sunrise. The white clay pan of Deadvlei is Namibia’s most photographed site, with 900-year-old trees preserved in the dry conditions.
The Namib-Naukluft National Park is one of Africa’s largest protected areas. Stay in a stunning desert hotel.
Take a hot-air balloon ride over the desert as the sun rises and later, marvel at the stunning night sky. Namibia is one of the best honeymoon destinations for stargazing.
Stop at the remote settlement of Solitaire with the famous car wrecks en route to the coast.
Swakopmund is a fun seaside town nestled between the expansive Namib Desert and the wild southern Atlantic Ocean. There is plenty to do along this stretch of rugged coastline from Walvis Bay.
Spend the day at the beach; take a catamaran cruise to see whales, dolphins and seals; go quad biking in the desert; do a tandem skydive; cycle through the dunes; or go sea kayaking.
See birds like pelicans and flamingos. For couples looking for an adventure on their honeymoon in Namibia, this is the spot.
Skeleton Coast stretches from Walvis Bay to the border of Angola. It is so named because of the whale skeletons that were found on the beach and the sailors lost along the coast.
Many shipwrecks are covered in sand or broken up by the powerful Atlantic Ocean waves. The Portuguese called Skeleton Coast the ‘sands of hell’. It’s one of the most mysterious places on the planet.
The northern half of Skeleton Coast National Park is mostly inaccessible and very few tourists visit. Mowe Bay is usually the jump-off point for any excursions into this wild area. If time allows book a stay at one of the world’s most remote lodges, Shipwreck Lodge.
The north of the country is a haven for incredible African wildlife. In Damaraland, visit the Petrified Forest and the ancient carvings and paintings at the UNESCO World Heritage Site at Twyfelfontein.
The banks of the Ugab River are home to the elusive desert elephant. Pass Namibia’s highest mountain, the Brandberg.
No honeymoon in Namibia would be complete without a visit to Etosha National Park, one of Africa’s best wildlife areas, perfect for an incredible safari honeymoon.
This vast park is home to a diverse array of wildlife, including elephants, lions, zebras, and many more.
Take a guided tour of the park and discover its many wonders, from the shimmering pans that attract thousands of flamingos to the hidden waterholes where elephants come to drink.
South of Etosha, make time for Okonjima, one of the best places to see big cats in Africa.
Is Namibia good for a honeymoon? Yes! Namibia is one of our favourite honeymoon destinations. For well-travelled couples who’ve been around the world, it’s an ideal honeymoon road trip with a difference.
