Is there anything more romantic than a stargazing honeymoon?

We’re obsessed with nights looking up at the cosmos, in a remote location with no light pollution where it feels like it’s only the two of you in the universe, the galaxy stretching out ahead of you as you start married life. Bliss!

Be as one with the heavens as you gaze up at the night sky – this is pure romance!

Let us take you to some of our favourite romantic stargazing honeymoon destinations…

Hawaii Honeymoon Stargazing

An island hopping honeymoon in Hawaii is nothing short of iconic.

This Pacific Polynesian paradise is one of the planet’s ultimate honeymoon destinations. While Hawaii is known for its stunning beaches, surfing and scenery, it’s also one of the best stargazing honeymoon destinations on earth.

Mauna Kea is on Hawaii’s Big Island. This dormant volcano stands 4205m (13796 ft) above sea level and offers breathtaking views of the land below.

But the real treat is the astronomical phenomena above! Take a tour to the summit and use the telescopes to discover galaxies, nebula, star clusters, planets, double star systems, the moon, and much more.

Mauna Kea stargazing is absolute must if you’re planning a Hawaii honeymoon.

Namibia Honeymoon Stargazing

One of our favourite unique honeymoon destinations, Namibia, is incredible.

This spectacular sparsely populated country at the southern edge of Africa is one of the darkest places on earth, making it one of the best stargazing honeymoon destinations.

The NamibRand Nature Reserve is an International Darks Sky Association’s designated Gold Tier International Dark Sky Reserve.

This is one of the largest private and protected reserves in Africa. There is zero light pollution (light pollution refers to artificial lights like those in cities which interfere with natural darkness).

Stargazing is an absolute must on an epic honeymoon road trip through the country. Marvel at the galaxies, star clusters, and nebulae in this otherworldly land.

Jordan Honeymoon Stargazing

Jordan is home to many delights, including a wonder of the world, the rose city of Petra. This stunning archaeological site is a must do.

But did you know one of Jordan’s greatest secret lies within its night skies? Jordan’s cloud-free skies provide perfect conditions for stargazers. It’s one of our favourite destinations for a stargazing honeymoon.

Learn about constellations in the Mars-like landscapes of Wadi Rum or in the Great Rift Valley’s Dana Biosphere.

Chile Honeymoon Stargazing

One of our favourite stargazing honeymoon destinations on the list, the Atacama Desert in northern Chile, is unique and remote.

In fact, it’s where many of the world’s largest telescopes are located.

High in the Andes, close to Bolivia and Argentina, the desert town of San Pedro de Atacama is a hot spot for astro-tourism.

Not only can you explore the incredible salt flats, geysers, canyons, and lagoons, but the spellbinding clear skies will leave you in awe at the celestial delights above. See shooting stars and the mesmerising Milky Way.

The Atacama Desert is not only one of our favourite stargazing honeymoon destinations, but it’s also one of our favourite desert hotel destinations.

Ireland Honeymoon Stargazing

County Kerry is one of Ireland’s most picturesque counties, with lush rolling hills and magical views of the wild Atlantic Ocean.

In fact, it’s one of our favourite destinations for a romantic road trip with some beautiful honeymoon hotels. At the edge of Europe, this rural area is one of our the best stargazing spots.

If you’re travelling down the west coast of Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way, you’ll also find a Dark Sky Park in County Mayo, too.

The Mayo and Kerry International Dark-Sky Reserves were awarded gold status from the International Dark Sky Association (IDA) in 2014 and 2016, respectively.

They give this designation to areas where light pollution is kept to a minimum, allowing visitors an unparalleled view of the night sky.

The reserve is a public access area and there are no constraints on access. You are free to stargaze at your leisure and don’t need a guide unless you want one!

Japan Honeymoon Stargazing

While many couples stick with the ‘mainland’ islands of Honshu and Hokkaido in Japan, in the south you’ll find a tropical paradise awaits!

Okinawa is an archipelago packed with stunning beaches and abundant marine life and it’s a stunning stargazing honeymoon destination.

Iriomote-Ishigaki National Park encompasses Iriomote Island and Ishigaki Island, part of the remote Yaeyama islands (and home to the magical Yaeyama fireflies).

The night sky here is especially captivating because of its very low light pollution levels and clear skies.

With its idyllic beaches and lush forests, this park is one of Japan’s most romantic honeymoon destinations. By day, go kayaking at Kabira Bay and snorkeling on idyllic islands like Hamajima. By night, marvel at the astonishing skies above.

With its clear skies and lack of light pollution, Mount Teide is a popular destination for star seekers. It’s the highest mountain in Spain.

In this northernmost region of Sweden, winter days are short and the nights are long enough for stunning views of auroras, dancing across snow-covered landscapes with meteor showers sparkling across the night’s sky.

Even one of Europe’s space centres is nearby. Go on a stargazing snowmobiling tour in the darkest of dark for the best views.
