OVERVIEW

A honeymoon in Australia has all you need to get ticking off your bucket list. This is a destination that honeymoon dreams are made of.

It’s one of our favourite destinations for a romantic honeymoon road trip and an incredible adventure honeymoon.

Most couples will start their honeymoon in Australia in one of the major east coast cities and take the classic journey from Cairns to Brisbane to Sydney to Melbourne.

Hire a vehicle and explore this fun and abundantly beautiful part of the planet. You don’t have to drive the whole way and unless you’ve plenty of time, you’ll need to take some short flights.

Base yourself in Far North Queensland in Cairns or the picturesque seaside town of Port Douglas.

From here you can snorkel the Great Barrier Reef and explore the Daintree Rainforest, see waterfalls in Kuranda and dive and snorkel on Fitzroy Island National Park.

Learn about indigenous aboriginal culture. Do a sky dive on Mission Beach and sail on a catamaran around the incredibly beautiful Whitsunday Islands with the most beautiful beaches in the world.

Hold a cute Koala Bear, spot some kangaroos, and find dingoes and sharks on K’Gari aka Fraser Island.

Explore the beaches of the Sunshine Coast and the theme parks of the Gold Coast. Explore the art and foodie scene in Brisbane.

Go across the New South Wales border to bohemian Byron Bay for beaches with surfing and whale-watching, beautiful hikes and a thriving dining scene. Stay in a bubble dome room in the outback and take a hot-air balloon ride. A honeymoon in Australia is an odyssey.

Some couples will fly to Sydney, but there are some beautiful beach stops along the NSW coast if you have time to drive. Sydney with the Sydney Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge are some of the world’s most iconic city images.

Whether it’s nightlife shopping, you’ll be in city heaven. Take a day trip to the Blue Mountains and Hunter Valley.

And of course, the beaches. No trip to Sydney is complete without experiencing Bondi Beach and other wonderful spots like Coogee Beach and Manly Beach.

We also love Melbourne. Find beautiful parks, engaging museums, and beautiful boutiques with the latest Australian designs. Explore the cool cafes and bars, sip local wine, drink innovative cocktails, and eat any world cuisine you can think of – it’s the ideal foodie honeymoon city.

Take a road trip down the Great Ocean Road for the iconic 12 apostles and see the cute penguins on Phillip Island. If you have time to drive between Sydney and Melbourne, make time for an off-the-beaten-track adventure at Wilsons Prom.

Maybe you’ve been-there-done-that? Then consider heading to Perth for a Western Australia adventure. Explore the Coral Coast from Perth.

Marvel at the expansive beaches, arid outback, endless desert, national parks, and coral reefs. WA has all this and more. We love Rottnest Island and Lake Hillier aka Pink Lake. Go stargazing and snorkelling at Ningaloo Reef.

For a unique adventure, take the epic Ghan train from Adelaide to Darwin – one of our favourite romantic train journeys. Start with the wine region Barossa Valley and visit Kangaroo Island in South Australia.

Stop at the jaw-dropping Red Centre to visit the sacred Uluru. The centre of Australia is a word of its own with Mars-like landscapes and a deep indigenous history that is worth learning about. End up in the Northern Territory exploring Kakadu National Park.

Is Australia good for a honeymoon? 100% Yes. Without a doubt, once you’ve had a honeymoon in Australia, you’ll be planning an anniversary trip too…

Best Time To Visit

Australia is a large country with multiple weather systems, meaning you can visit all year round depending on what you want to see and do.

The best time to honeymoon in Australia is Spring (March to May) or Autumn (September to November).

During the southern hemisphere winter (from June to August) the northern half experiences a dry season with moderate temperatures however, it gets colder in the country’s south with great skiing options in Victoria.

During the Australian summer (from December to February) the weather is extremely hot in most parts of the country and the northern part of the country can experience tropical rain and storms.

how long to stay

There is so much to see and do in Australia that it needs much longer than the average honeymoon!

We recommend at least 14-28 nights for a honeymoon in Australia.

However, the ideal duration of a honeymoon in the Australia can vary depending on personal preferences and budget.

At least 14 nights will allow you some time to recover from jet lag and have time for some highlights.
