While many couples opt for a tropical beach honeymoon or a jungle adventure honeymoon, we love these romantic winter honeymoon destinations for a cosy, snowy, majestic, and unique adventure. Stay in an igloo or log cabin, enjoy a sauna, take a husky ride and witness the otherworldly Aurora Borealis. You can see the sparkle magic in the air as soft glittery snow falls down and blankets the coniferous pines and spruces that make up the taiga forest that stretches from the Atlantic to the Pacific. Magic. Let’s take you to the best romantic winter honeymoon hotels…

P.S. These would work well for a winter minimoon too!

Snowhotel Kirkenes – Norway

In Kirkenes, in the far north corner of Norway, close to the border with Finland and Russia, the Snowhotel is an arctic gem and one of the most unique hotels in the world. Perfect for a romantic winter honeymoon treat. Spend at least one night at the hotel. Inside you’ll find ice and snow sculptures. They also have Gamme Cabins for a longer stay. The ice bar is one of our favourite features.

Feast on fresh arctic delights like reindeer (sorry Rudolf!) and halibut. Be picked up from the airport by huskies and take a yoga class in the snow.

How to get there: Fly to Kirkenes (airport code: KKN) via Norway’s capital Oslo (airport code: OSL) with SAS or Norwegian. The flight time from Kirkenes to Oslo is around 2-hours. The Snowhotel is 15-minutes from the airport.

Northern Lights Village Saariselka – Finland

Finland truly is a winter honeymoon wonderland, and it’s hard to narrow down the beautiful hotels and lodges available in the country for a romantic winter honeymoon. It’s one of our favourite honeymoon destinations with a difference. The Aurora Cabins at Northern Lights Village Saariselka are the perfect spot to sleep under the cosmic Aurora Borealis. They have glass roofs which are laser heated to keep the snow off and the view clear. The restaurant has a selection of local and international delicacies and it’s ideal for veggies too.

Opt to take an aurora hunting expedition on a snowmobile, sleigh or by foot. Take an aurora photography class. You can even watch them on the border with Russia, one of the most unique places to witness this wonderful marvel.

How to get there: Fly to via Ivalo Airport (airport code: IVL) via Finland’s capital Helsinki (airport code: HEL) with Finnair. The flight time from Helsinki to Ivalo is around 1 hour 45 minutes. Northern Lights Village Saariselka is a 20-minute drive from the airport.

Arctic Bath – Sweden

Floating in the heart of Swedish Lapland, Artic Bath caused quite a stir when it opened. This distinct architectural gem is one of the most luxurious hotels in Scandinavia. The hardest part is choosing which rooms category. We love with them all.

The Land cabins and Suite cabins, elevated on poles, are on the shore among vegetation connected by walkways with a peaceful deck. Or, opt for a unique Water Cabin on the Lule River connected by a floating walkway. Enjoy the spa with two dry saunas, one steam sauna, two outdoor jacuzzis, and an open-air cold pool. The restaurant is all about local Scandi flavours. You can also book the Ice diving experience, a 3-course dinner in a heated tipi tent on an ice-covered lake, not to mention all the traditional activities you can do in Lapland. We’re obsessed.

How to get there: Fly to Luleå Airport (airport code: LLA) via Stockholm (airport code: ARN) with Ryanair, Norwegian and SAS. The flying time from Stockholm to Lulea is around 1 hour 30 minutes. Arctic Bath is just over a 1-hour drive from the airport.

Tips for booking a romantic winter wonderland honeymoon hotel:

  • Many hotels book out well in advance, so plan and book early.
  • Seeing the Northern Lights is not guaranteed so plan at least 3 – 4+ nights for a better chance to witness this beautiful phenomenon.
  • Unless you live in a climate that experiences regular heavy snow and ice and you are experienced driving in these conditions, we would recommend organising transport and tours with your hotel / tour operator rather than driving yourselves.
