Secrets Maroma Beach Riviera Cancun

On one of Mexico’s most beautiful stretches of beach, Secrets Maroma Beach Riviera Cancun is a long-time favourite with couples since it opened in 2008 and one of the best Secrets resorts.

It’s a little more secluded (it’s about 60 minutes from Cancun and 30 minutes from Playa del Carmen).

The resort is 4 stories high and, like all Secrets Resorts & Spas, despite being a relatively extensive property (Secrets Resorts have 400+ rooms), because of the expansive location, you’ll still find a relaxing and peaceful environment.

There are smaller pools and 2 large ones, including an infinity pool. There are six à la carte restaurants, a buffet and a grill and six bars including a divine swim-up bar,

Take a taco-making class or a sunrise kayak tour. With beach parties and theme nights, you may find it hard to tear yourself away from the resort to go on day trips!

The entry-level room is the Junior Suite Tropical View (with a view of the gardens) but we love the upgraded Junior Suite Swim Out rooms with steps down to the pool.

The spa is 13,000 square feet – we love the Share Your Secrets Duo Journey – honeymoon bliss!

Secrets Maroma is ideal for couples who want a relaxing beach honeymoon and don’t need lively nightlife on their doorstep.

Secrets The Vine Cancun

Secrets The Vine Cancun has been smack bang right in the middle of Cancun’s Hotel Zone (aka Zona Hotelera) since it opened in 2012. This long stretch of beach is around 20 minutes from Cancun Central (aka Cancun Centro).

Packed with hotels, restaurants, nightclubs and bars, it’s the perfect choice for couples who want to be really close to the action (and want to do a bit of partying).

All the rooms and suites in this 18-story tower have views of the sea (some will be partial side sea view) so you can wake up every morning to the Caribbean Sea or Laguna Nichupte and beautiful sunrises and sunsets.

Nine dining options await – from Mediterranean to Asian to Mexican to Peruvian-inspired cuisines. Try to bag a window seat for breakfast overlooking the azure Caribbean water at Market Cafe.

Play beach volleyball or laze in the infinity pool. You can enjoy the evening entertainment in a resort or dance the night away at tourist hotspots like Coco Bongos less than a 10-minute drive away.

Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya

Secrets Akumal Riviera Maya is on Akumal Beach, one of the best beaches and places to snorkel along the Riviera Maya’s stunning coast.

Almost halfway between Playa Del Carmen and Tulum (around a 30-minute drive from each), the biggest draw is the turtles that live in the sea here.

At over 90 minutes’ drive from Cancun, it may not be the right choice for couples seeking something lively. What it doesn’t have in wild nightlife, it makes up for in luxury – Secrets Akumal is one of the highest-rated Secrets resorts.

Since it opened in 2015, it has been one of the best Secrets resorts in Mexico for honeymoon. We find it hard to choose between the swim-out suites and ocean view suites in this low-rise haven!

White sandy beach and swaying palm trees make it one of the most picturesque resorts on the Riviera Maya.

Go snorkelling, kayaking and take a bike tour. Learn about Mayan history. Chill in one of the three pools (infinity, social and relaxing). With nine restaurants (including six à la carte options) and seven bars – you’re spoiled for choice.

Secrets Akumal is ideal for couples who want a relaxing, pampering honeymoon close to nature.

Secrets Moxché Playa Del Carmen

Just opened in summer 2022, Secrets Moxché Playa del Carmen has a contemporary yet relaxing feel with earthy tones throughout. We love the Junior Suite Ocean View rooms.

The dining options are super exciting – with ELEVEN unique outlets – including seven à la carte restaurants and a 24-hour cafe. Cocktails at the Cove Bar on the beach are a must!

Book the Preferred Club for the rooftop restaurant and bar. There is a beautiful seafront, yet you’re only a stone’s throw away from central Playa Del Carmen.

If you can tear yourselves away from the seven heated pools and cool features like the man-made cenotes, the town is less than a 15-minute drive away.

Next door to Secrets Moxché, you’ll find the 200-suite Impression Moxché by Secrets.

This is more boutique style and has an elevated level of luxury – think personal butler service, larger suites, organic ingredients, no check-in or check-out times, welcome bottle of liquor, a rooftop lounge and a restaurant with an infinity pool and 360-degree views, to name a few.

Ultra-luxe heaven. Impression Moxché by Secrets just opened in December 2022 and it’s already a future classic and one of the best Secrets Resorts in Mexico.

Impression Isla Mujeres by Secrets just opened in May 2023 and early reviews suggest this peaceful island paradise is going to be one of the best Secrets Resorts in Mexico of all time.

Secrets Tulum Resort & Beach Club

Secrets Tulum Resort & Beach Club is on the way in October 2023. Tulum is usually at the top of the wish list for a Mexico honeymoon and we think this is going to be one of the best Secrets Resorts in Mexico.

Find cool bars and restaurants, a dazzling beach and Mayan ruins. The best all-inclusive luxury hotel group opening a hotel there is the news we needed to hear!

While its early days, so we don’t have all the details just yet. However, here are a few things we know so far – It will be a unique circular building surrounded by jungle in Tulum.

There will be swim-out rooms and 5 dining options, cafes and 3 bars. There will be a rooftop lounge with a swim-up bar and fire pit.

And the most exciting bit? A full-service private beach club in the heart of Tulum’s coastline. Honeymoon heaven!

Secrets Playa Blanca Costa Mujeres

Secrets Playa Blanca Costa Mujeres is due to open the doors in December 2023. 

This adults-only haven is situated just 12 miles north of Cancún and promises an escape into unparalleled luxury. Picture this: sprawling white-sand beaches, oceanfront infinity pools plus each suite will be a canvas for local art and furnishings, complete with Unlimited-Luxury® amenities. 

The spa, fitness centre, and theater open in May 2024 but in the meantime, you’ll still have access to endless dining, top-shelf drinks, and an array of day and night activities.

A note on seaweed

Ah, the Caribbean Sea—azure waters, powdery sands, and… seaweed? While visions of pristine beaches dance in your head, Mother Nature sometimes has her own plans.

Since 2011, Riviera Maya (and other destinations in the Caribbean) have seen an increase in Sargassum Seaweed, which was widely reported in the media.

When you go on honeymoon to a destination like Mexico, you may have an image of clear powdery sand and azure waters. To arrive at a seaweed-filled beach would, of course, be disappointing for beach-loving couples.

However, the good news is that many resorts have combated this in recent years with ocean barriers and manual beach clean-ups.

It is an unpredictable, natural phenomenon, not yet explained by science. Climate change is most likely a factor. The seaweed usually appears at various points in the summer months from May to October.

Seaweed also happens in places like Seychelles. We recommend managing your expectations – seaweed is just part of nature after all!

Take a hot-air balloon ride over Teotihuacan. Do a food tour and visit the Frida Kahlo museum. Go on rollercoasters at Six Flags. The perfect contrast to the beach.
