Honeymoon in Costa Rica

Most couples will start their honeymoon in Costa Rica in the capital, San Jose, which is a jumping-off point to explore this exciting country. Take a day to explore the city and the foodie highlights like Central Market. You’ll find exotic fruits and some of the best coffee in the world.

Visit Monteverde to zip-line through the lush jungle and navigate suspension bridges through cloud forests on the Sky Walk. Head to La Fortuna, the town at the base of the Arenal volcano. This is one of the best adventure areas of Costa Rica. Go whitewater rafting, caving, rappelling, swim in waterfalls, bike through the rainforest and go horseback riding. At Sarapiquí Rainforest, discover the wildlife and bird life of the jungle and coffee farms. 

On a honeymoon in Costa Rica, you can dip your toes in both the Pacific Ocean and the Caribbean Sea. On the Pacific coast, you’ll find one of our favourite areas, and also one of the most popular, Manuel Antonio National Park. Discover one of the best beaches in Central America, surrounded by pristine rainforest. Stay in the tourist town of Quepos. Take a boat tour to spot wild dolphins or take a surfing lesson. You’ll also find bustling Tamarindo in the northwest, perfect for a beach stay with great surfing. Plus, there are plenty of activities available for adventure lovers. In the southwest, go whale watching at Marino Ballena National Park from July to October.

The Caribbean coast has many highlights, too. Snorkel and scuba dive amongst the rich marine life at Cahuita National Park, away from the crowds. Head to Tortuguero between July and October to witness the nesting season of Green Sea and Hawksbill turtles. You can also try to see the rarer Leatherback turtles nest from February to April. Puerto Viejo de Talamanca, or know as Puerto Viejo, is the perfect destination to kick back on the beach and sip on fresh coconuts.

A honeymoon in Costa Rica is easy to combine with the USA with flights from multiple major US cities like Miami, Los Angeles. There is also a direct flight from Toronto. Intrepid couples who have a bit more could travel up through Nicaragua, Honduras & Guatemala for an epic Central America odyssey. There are also flights to cities in the region too. For example, you could combine an adventure in Costa Rica with a luxury all-inclusive resort in Mexico.
