1. Phuket

For a honeymoon, we’d recommend staying a little further from the centre of these areas. There are other areas like Surin, Bang Tao, Nai Harn and Mai Khao which are a little quieter. The east coast has some hotel gems, too.

2. Khao Lak

Ok, we’ve cheated a little. Khao Lak is not actually an island, but is an area about an hour north of Phuket on the mainland and easily accessible by bridge.

It’s a tranquil coastal region, ideal for a serene retreat with lush jungle and pristine beaches with a real island feel. This area is much quieter than Phuket’s commercialised areas and has some of our favourite honeymoon hotels in Thailand.

You can visit Lam Ru National Park with hiking trails, waterfalls and jungle adventures. Nearby Khao Sok, one of the best national parks in Thailand is a must. Visit the jungle and meet with elephant.

An absolute must-do is to take a boat trip to the Similan Islands for the vibrant marine life and stunning underwater landscapes. If you’ve ever wanted to visit Seychelles, then these are similar with beautiful beaches and large granite boulders.

There is a small town in Khao Lak, so you can explore local markets and temples and try out authentic Thai cuisine with a cooking class and indulge in heavenly massages.

Khao Lak is not an area for couples seeking nightlife but a lovely spot for finishing up or starting your Thailand island hopping itinerary because of its proximity to Phuket airport.

4. Ko Yao Yai

Ko Yao Yai, also known as ‘Big Long Island’, is the larger sister island to Koh Yao Noi, nestled in the heart of Phang Nga Bay.

5. Ko Phi Phi

Ko Phi Phi Don is the heart of this vibrant archipelago in the Andaman Sea. 6. Krabi

Sorry for cheating again but we must mention Krabi, which, while not an island, has a total island feel! Krabi is a province on the mainland of Thailand with offshore islands, too.

Krabi is totally enchanting and with its dramatic karst formations, crystal-clear waters. It’s home to some of Thailand’s most iconic scenery.

7. Ko Lanta

Ko Lanta is one of our favourite islands in Thailand for honeymoon. With the most magical sunsets, Ko Lanta Yai is part of the Mu Koh Lanta National Park, off the coast of Krabi. 

While becoming more popular in recent years, it’s still much less explored than other islands.

The island is home to a blend of Buddhist and Muslim communities, living harmoniously and adding to the island’s unique charm. Visit the traditional old town of Koh Lanta and get a glimpse into local life.

In the Andaman Sea, close to Koh Lipe and off the border with Malaysia within Tarutao National Marine Park, this is a pristine haven.

11. Ko Pha Ngan

Another Gulf of Thailand gem, Ko Phangan is home to the iconic Full Moon Parties, the monthly event that attracts revellers from around the world to Haad Rin Beach.

The island is just north of Koh Samui and there is much more beyond late nights with buckets of vodka and mushrooms! It is a haven of natural beauty, with pristine beaches, lush jungles, and waterfalls.

12. Ko Tao

While not as wow as the islands on the Andaman Coast with no ultra luxury hotels, the beaches here are still beautiful with white sand and azure water.

The island is part of the Khao Laem Ya National Park and is close to Pattaya, one of the most popular areas of Thailand, but not ideal for a honeymoon. (If you want to stay on the mainland and close to Bangkok, opt for Hua Hin on the other side of the Bay of Bangkok).
