Honeymoon in Cuba

Honeymoon in Cuba | The Honeymoon Guide

Why Go

An ever-intriguing destination, a honeymoon in Cuba is perfect for beach lovers who don’t just want to spend time on the beach!

This beautiful Caribbean island nation has so much to offer – stunning beaches, fascinating history and rich culture.

Because of the USA’s trade embargo, Cuba has yet to feel the effects of globalisation in the way most of the world has, which makes it a unique place to visit.

Cuba’s long and storied history, dating back centuries from the early days of Spanish colonization to the rise of Fidel Castro, means there is much to explore for history buffs.

Because of the embargo, Cuba’s tourism industry faces challenges. The accommodation may not be as refined as you will elsewhere, although there are plenty of four-star accommodation options in the tourist areas.

Food availability and variety can also be an issue, therefore it’s not an ideal destination for a dedicated foodie honeymoon. However, what it might lack in culinary and high-end ultra luxury, it makes up for in everything else!

Most couples will start their honeymoon in Cuba, in the vibrant capital, Havana. Spend a few days exploring this atmospheric city of legend.

Stroll down the picturesque Malecón waterfront. Explore the winding streets of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Old Havana and enjoy the nostalgic charm.

The baroque and neoclassical buildings are an architectural treasure trove. Take a ride in a classic American car and spend the night in a bar with a Daiquiri or Mojito or two. See where Hemingway lived. There’s no shortage of experiences in Havana.

Take a car or hire a driver to explore this big island is a must on a Cuba honeymoon. The UNESCO World Heritage city of Trinidad is a must with its cobblestone streets and kaleidoscope of crumbling Spanish colonial architecture.

Take a salsa dance lesson or maybe learn some Spanish. Don’t miss the town of Cienfuegos and history buffs will love a visit to the Bay of Pigs.

Head to Pinar del Rio and to the Valley of Viñales to hike the Sierra de los Órganos mountains and visit the tobacco farms for the famed cigars.

Support the local economy and enrich your honeymoon in Cuba with a homestay with a local family. Head to the east to the less-visited parts of Cuba.

Explore the Afro-Cuban city of Santiago de Cuba and follow in the revolutionary footsteps of Che Guevara & Fidel Castro with a hike in the Sierra Maestra National Park.

Cuba is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, the whiter-than-white sandy idyllic Caribbean beaches you dream of.

Whether you’re looking for a quiet and romantic spot to relax or a lively place to enjoy some water sports, you’ll find exactly what you’re looking for on this unique Caribbean island.

Varadero Beach is a major resort town with plenty of resorts to relax under the Caribbean sun and is the number one choice for couples planning a honeymoon in Cuba. Perfect if you’re looking for a relaxing all-inclusive beach honeymoon.

But if you want to see one of the most beautiful beaches in the world? Take a flight to Cayo Coco or Cayo Largo for Playa Paraiso.

Neighbouring Cayo Santa María is also popular, with a smattering of big-brand resorts. Across the island, history is everywhere and Cubans are some of the most welcoming and hospitable people on earth.

Best Time To Visit

Cuba is a tropical destination that is warm year-round and experiences ‘rainy’ and ‘dry’ seasons.

The rainy months are from June to October when you can expect occasional heavy downpours.

Hurricanes can sometimes occur, particularly from August to early November.

The best time to honeymoon in Cuba is from late November to April.

How Long To Stay

We recommend at least 7 to 10 nights for a honeymoon in Cuba with more time needed if you want to add on a beach stay.

However, the ideal duration of a honeymoon in Cuba can vary depending on personal preferences and budget.

10 nights will allow you to recover from jet lag if necessary and see some of the highlights.

Where To Tag On

There is so much to see and do in Cuba that you could easily spend your entire honeymoon here.

It’s the largest island in the Caribbean. If you are planning on a multi-destination honeymoon, you combine Cuba with Canada, Mexico, The Dominican Republic, or the Bahamas.

While there are frequent flights between the US and Cuba, US regulations restrict travel for US persons to approved categories (not general tourism). Also, if you’ve been in Cuba on or after Jan 12, 2021, you’ll generally be ineligible for ESTA under the US Visa Waiver Program and will need to apply for a visa at a US embassy/consulate. Always check current rules before booking.
