One word of warning: August coincides with school break/holidays in many regions, so we recommend booking early to get the best deals and availability.

If the paradise islands Fiji or French Polynesia in the Pacific Ocean are on your list, you’re in luck, as August is an ideal time to visit. It’s the dry season in the incredibly beautiful Bora Bora.

It is winter in Australia, so it can be cooler in the southern states of Victoria (around Melbourne) & South Australia (around Adelaide). It’s a great time for winter sports. If you prefer warmer weather, then visit the vast Northern Territory for sacred Uluru, the Red Centre and Darwin. We love Queensland in winter, where they experience two seasons: ‘wet’ and ‘dry’. In August you’ll find easy temperatures in the early 20s°C / 70s°F.

It’s winter in New Zealand, ideal for a winter sports honeymoon.

Africa & Indian Ocean

Africa is one of the best destinations for honeymoons in August. Embark on a trip of a lifetime across the savannah on a safari in the Serengeti and Masai Mara in Tanzania and Kenya (find out more about the difference between them here). One of the earth’s most incredible wildlife spectacles, the great migration, passes through the northern Serengeti in August.

It’s an ideal time to visit Botswana. Water levels in the Okavango Delta are high, meaning you’ll find some of the best safari tours in Africa. The peak time for Victoria Falls is from March to May, but you can expect plenty of water falling over the precipice. Devil’s Pool usually opens in the second half of the month for brave souls who want to swim at the edge of the cliff. We love Namibia for a road trip with a difference. Etosha National Park and the Kalahari desert will be unforgettable.

While it is cooler in South Africa around Cape Town and the popular Garden Route, it is a great time to visit Kruger National Park.

It’s a perfect month to visit the paradise islands of the Seychellesyou can find our Ultimate Seychelles Honeymoon Guide here! Explore the best beaches in the world on an island-hop. Combine with a safari in Kenya or South Africa, Nairobi and Johannesburg have direct flights. While it is a little cooler in Mauritius, it is the dry season – you can learn more with our Ultimate Mauritius Honeymoon Guide. Maldives experiences wet season from May to October, although it experiences plenty of sunny days too. Wondering what the difference is between Maldives, Seychelles and Mauritius? We’ve got the lowdown here.

South America

Although it is winter in the Southern Hemisphere, it’s still a great time to visit Brazil with warm weather in Rio de Janeiro and dry conditions in the Amazon rainforest.

If you’ve had the iconic Inca Trail on your bucket list, August is one of the best times of the year to visit Peru. Explore Lake Titicaca and the Amazon Rainforest.

Ecuador is also a great destination for an adventure honeymoon. Hop over the Galapagos Islands, a year-round destination and August is one of the less humid months. We love Colombia for a mix of adventure and beach. The climate conditions are diverse across the country.

It’s also the rainy season in Central American destinations like Costa Rica & Mexico, particularly on the Caribbean coast. You can expect rain showers and thunderstorms, although these destinations are still popular despite the unpredictability of the weather.

It’s the rainy season in many parts of Asia so if you’re not used to humid weather, it can be uncomfortable. However, it is an excellent time to visit Indonesia – explore the beaches, nightlife, culture and history of Bali. One of the most affordable destinations for a honeymoon in August.

It’s hot and dry in the Gulf states of Oman & United Arab Emirates and other Middle East countries like Jordan and Turkey, However, Dubai is a big hub, so if you are travelling through and want to stopover for a few days, there are plenty of indoor pursuits like museums, Ski Dubai, afternoon tea at Burj Al Arab and indoor theme parks.
