About

The land of saints and scholars, a honeymoon in Ireland is a perfect alternative to a tropical island beach. One of the most beautiful coastlines in the world, wild and windswept (with great surfing on the Wild Atlantic Way), cosy pubs, the weight of history everywhere and of course the céad míle fáilte from the locals (a hundred thousand welcomes).

As the island is so compact, you can pack a lot in on a road trip. Start in Dublin, home of Guinness and a buzzing restaurant and bar scene.

Head north to thriving Belfast to friendly Derry via the stunning Causeway Coast. Head west to Galway, European culture capital 2020 with the beautiful Connemara a short drive away and the Aran Islands just a boat trip away. The coastal drive through the Burren in Clare and a quick hop down to Kerry, home to the most scenic part of the country, is an essential part of any Ireland honeymoon. West Cork nearby is wonderful with tiny seaside villages, cliff walks and hidden islands at the edge of Europe.

Weather

The best time to visit Ireland for a honeymoon is from April to October. The mild climate means the weather can be pleasant from March onwards, although this is never guaranteed. From June to August, the weather is warmest, with average temperatures around 18°C / 60°F. Ireland can very occasionally have a “heatwave” bringing Mediterranean temperatures. Winters, from November to February, are cold, wet and windy with occasional storms and average temperatures in Dublin of 5°C / 40°F in December/January.
