A honeymoon in Colombia has it all – fascinating history, rich culture, pristine beaches, stunning scenery, verdant jungle, and lively cities. We love this diverse, epic adventure honeymoon destination.

Most couples start their honeymoon in Colombia in Bogota, the 3rd highest capital in the world. Go to the gold museum, Museo del Oro and climb Monserrate for amazing views. Visit El Paraíso favela to marvel at the colourful buildings and learn about local life. Take a walking tour through La Candelaria district and stop at Paloquemao market.

Get exploring the coffee region of Armenia and visit a farm to learn about bean to cup. Hike the stunning Cocora Valley in Los Nevados National Park. Visit Medellín and take a graffiti tour of Comuna 13, once considered one of the world’s most dangerous neighbourhoods, but now transformed. Explore the dining scene and nightlife of this fascinating city. Take a trip to see the colourful buildings of Guatape. Get off the beaten track in the Andes in the town of San Gil where you’ll find endless adventure activities like paragliding, whitewater rafting and bungee jumping. Stay in a bubble tent in the Colombian countryside.

Much of the Colombian Amazon is inaccessible. So while you can visit the charming eco-village of Puerto Nariño, we recommend heading to the country’s north instead, where there are many gems. Use the city of Santa Marta as a jump off point for many Colombian honeymoon highlights. Tayrona National Park has pristine beaches and incredible hikes. The fabled Ciudad Perdida is a must. Also known as the Lost City of Teyuna, these ancient ruins are older than Machu Picchu by approximately 650 years. Spend a few days trekking the jungle for a truly once in a lifetime journey.

Go whale watching off the Pacific Ocean coastline. Hardcore diving enthusiasts should seek permission to dive at Isla Malpelo. We’re obsessed with the Caribbean coast. Enjoy the nightlife and beaches in Cartagena. The old town walls and fortress are designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visit magical Caribbean islands like the Rosario Islands archipelago, San Andres and Providencia with remarkable palm-tree lined beaches. Or, if you’re looking for something a little more adventurous, try windsurfing or kitesurfing at Cabo de la Vela.

Bogota is also a great hub to get to other destinations. It is easy to get to countries like Peru, Ecuador, Brazil and Argentina so you can create a unique South America honeymoon itinerary. It also has great connections to the Caribbean Islands. You can combine a honeymoon in Colombia with islands like Curacao, the Dominican Republic and Aruba for a wonderful multi-destination honeymoon. You can fly to Mexico for a luxury, all-inclusive resort. And, you can add in city stops in many major North American cities, including New York, Miami and Toronto (to name a few!)

A honeymoon in Colombia is one of our favourites for intrepid explorers!

Best time to visit Colombia

Because of the varying climate conditions across the country, Colombia is good to visit for most of the year, as you are unlikely to encounter long spells of adverse weather. The best time to visit Colombia for a honeymoon is from December to March, when it is the dry season in the Andes. The Caribbean coast gets more rain from September to November.
