A honeymoon in Sri Lanka, the island nation in the Indian Ocean is one of the most diverse destinations in the world.

Most couples will start with a few days’ of pure relaxation in one of the many beach areas like Negombo, Hikkaduwa and Bentota which are only a stone’s throw from Colombo, the capital.

Hire a driver and explore many of the incredible sights on this vibrant island. Expect tea plantations, rock fortresses, temples and holy Buddhist relics. Visit an elephant sanctuary and Yala, the national park teeming with life including leopards.. Along the coast, you’ll find idyllic fishing villages. Stop at Mirissa to go whale watching (seasonal) and admire the colonial Dutch architecture of Galle.

Did we mention the food? Heavily influenced by its neighbour to the north, India, it’s a place where curry is acceptable for breakfast.

Sri Lanka has a varied climate, with two monsoon patterns affecting the weather, making it a year-round destination. The best time to visit Sri Lanka for a honeymoon is from December to April, although if you’re travelling from May to September, the east coast and north of the island expect dry weather while the popular west and southwest coasts are wetter.

Is Sri Lanka good for a honeymoon? Yes, it’s a diverse honeymoon destination for those who love beaches, culture, history and wildlife.

How long do you need for a honeymoon in Sri Lanka? We recommend at least 10 nights with more time needed for a beach add-on.
